Orci On Trek TV Series

1 min read

While promoting Ender’s Game with Gavin Hood, Roberto Orci took time to answer a question about a Star Trek television series.

Since Star Trek: Enterprise went off of the air, people have speculated about the return of some form of Star Trek returning to television.

“I don’t know,” said Orci, when asked if a Star Trek television series was any closer to coming to fruition.

“We literally just ended up at CBS, who I think has the rights to TV, so we’ll mention, ‘hey, what’s going on with that, and then we’re talking to Paramount to see if we can make their plans of scheduling, when they want the movie to come out if that’s something that we can deliver for them, and if we have a good idea, you know, let the best idea win always.”

Orci’s comments come at the 7:20 mark in the video embedded below.

  1. You know, I was not happy about the Paramount/CBS split when it first happened because of the impact it had of Trek at the time. Looking at it now however, and how it’s held JJ’s grand plans to fully cover up 40 plus years of Trek with his abomination, I’m really loving CBS TV right about about now! Anything to hold that thing back from taking over Trek on tv as well and replacing TOS merchandise with his crap!

  2. Thankfully, this is about tv where CBS appears to be the last standard bearer for original, quality Star Trek productions.

  3. On what are you basing this opinion? I’d like to believe it’s true, but what Trek productions has CBS been involved with since the Paramount split? To my knowledge the only things they’ve done have been the dvd releases.

  4. In life, we are not just presented with opportunities to do things… Sometimes, we are presented with the opportunity not to do certain things… and, in this instance, CBS choosing not to give Orci and Kurtzman and JJ Abrams the series they wanted when they took over Star Trek at Paramount was an example of that.

To quote the President of the United Federation of Planets from The Undiscovered Country:

Let us redefine progress to mean that just because we can do something it does not follow that we MUST do that thing.

    Thankfully, CBS understood that.
