Kurtzman In Mummy Talks
1 min readStar Trek into Darkness‘ Alex Kurtzman is in “final negotiations” to direct The Mummy.
Kurtzman is already one of the producers of the movies along with Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel. Bobby Cohen is The Mummy‘s executive producer.
“Over the course of developing The Mummy, Alex has demonstrated such clarity and passion about this character and mythology,” said co-president of production Jeff Kirschenbaum. “He knows why The Mummy has fascinated us for so long and how to bring that into an inventive, incredible new adventure. It became obvious that he is the perfect choice to be not only one of the narrative engineers of this new vision but its director as well.”
Few plot details for The Mummy remake are available, but this The Mummy is an “action-adventure tentpole with horror elements,” in a present-day setting.
The script was written by Jon Spaihts, Roberto Orci, and Kurtzman.
The Mummy will be released April 22, 2016.
They’re rebooting The Mummy AGAIN *already*?!?!?!
Ah crap, not another one… Can ANYONE do ANYTHING original? Gee… what’s next? A another reboot of “Lost in Space”? Ooo! I hear “Space 1999” is a hot property!
Looks kind of like a hipster Raymond Burr.
Orci’s directing the third Star Trek reboot movie, so Kurtzman had to direct something? Hoo, boy!
Give them long enough! *sigh*
The sad fact of the matter is that originality isn’t rewarded as much as rehashes. As much as everyone loved Gravity and was #6 in 2014, it was still beaten out by 4 franchise films and a Disney movie that has since become a marketing juggernaut.
