Pegg: Choosing His Movie Roles

While doing press for his latest movie, Hector and the Search for Happiness, Simon Pegg explained why he chooses to do certain movies.

The actor works in both British and American films, and confessed to being “proud of our [British] film industry.”

“Obviously the British film industry is important to me, and it’s where I’m from,” said Pegg. “I don’t want to desert it. But as an actor, you have to go where the work is. At the same time, if I work in the UK, it means I can sleep in my own bed, and that’s where I’m at my happiest! I like to be near my family, I don’t like to be away for too long.”

Pegg wanted to set the record straight, when it came to why he chose some of the bigger films in which he has worked. “I would actually refute that I do big films like Mission: Impossible and Star Trek so I can do smaller films,” he said. “I do those films because I love doing those films. They’re fun films to do. It’s great to work with those kinds of people, and those kinds of resources. But I also like to do small films as well. But it’s not like I’m funding my small film career with the big films!”

Hector and the Search for Happiness releases this week in Europe and September 19 in the US.

  1. I kind of wish he’d stick to small films. He has “nitch” written all over him. And that is actually not a slam so much as a comment that he should stick to his strengths.

  2. Let’s not besmirch the horses, shall we? And I have no idea what virtual machines or VMWare have done to upset you so much.
