Fans of George Takei take notice; he will be appearing on Oprah: Where Are They Now? this Sunday evening.

Oprah Winfrey will be interviewing Takei, Jermaine Jackson, Rex Smith, and Ali Landry on the episode.

On Oprah: Where Are They Now?, Winfrey looks back on some of her past guests on The Oprah Winfrey show, and updates viewers on what they’re doing today.

Takei “became known to millions of viewers who might never have predicted that today he would be an outspoken gay activist for marriage equality. He takes time out from his role as Grand Marshall of Seattle’s Pride Parade to introduce his husband and open up about his childhood, five years of which was spent in an internment camp.”

The actor will talk about his marriage, Star Trek, and his childhood years in the internment camp.

Oprah: Where Are They Now? airs Sunday night at 9 PM on OWN.

  1. George. This is getting downright pathological. Your “problem uncle”? It’s been 45 YEARS. Bill was the star. You were a supporting player. There was no ambiguity about this. Shatner was living in a camper after Trek ended. He had to fight hard to get to where he is. He’s not spending his time taking jabs at former co-stars on “where are they now” programs over a pecking order from half a century ago. Think about it.

  2. I’ve lost so much respect for George Takei over the years. I used to love watching him on Star Trek as a kid, but the more I learn about the real man and his quest to slam William Shatner at every turn, the more I find I’m disgusted with him.

  3. I’d like to see a grassroots campaign of folks on the web telling TrekMovie, TrekToday and other sites to simply stop covering every instance of George Takei bashing on William Shatner (as well as any of the return fire from Shatner). We’re NOT that starved for every little Trek tidbit. And this is not news, nor is it helping to promote the franchise or TOS in a positive way.

Heck, even Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan handle their personal relationship, or lack there of, with more discretion. And their issues with each other are far more recent, rather than beginning almost 50 years ago.

Who knows how many other Star Trek actors have handled their differences with silence and professionalism? Maybe that’s the point: We don’t, and we don’t need to.

If a campaign like this is effective, maybe mainstream media will also notice and follow suit. It’s kind of like a new “Save Star Trek” campaign, but saving it from within.

One can dream… But many can make it happen!

  4. “Where are they nos?” Takei? You have to live on some lonesome island if you have to ask this question. Takei uses every little opportunity to get himself into the media even though he is anything but a great and important actor. He never has anything new to tell, it’s always WW II, gays and of course Shatner. The show would better be “Takei? Who cares?”
