Attention Canadian Trek fans; the new William Shatner documentary on The Next Generation airs on HBO Canada tonight.

The documentary, William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge, was written and directed by Shatner.

In William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge, fans will get an “enlightening look at the first two seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Shatner interviewed The Next Generation cast members such as Sir Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, and John de Lancie for the one-hour documentary. Others interviewed included John Pike, then president of Paramount television, writers Maurice Hurley and D.C. Fontana, producers Rick Berman and Brannon Braga, and other behind-the-scenes crewmembers.

All was not tranquil on the set, or behind the scenes. There was “egos, the infighting, the fan backlash…bluffs and threats,” and the cast was not certain that the series would survive.

William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge airs tonight on HBO Canada at 9 PM. It is expected to eventually be released in the U.S.

  1. I’d like to see this to find out about the series genesis (no pun intended). I remember reading at the time Paramount wanted TNG more than Roddenberry, who became involved primarily because he didn’t entirely approve of the studio’s plans for the new show. Sort of they were going to do it with or without him. Hope the documentary offers some light.

  2. William Shatner is so fucking greedy, any which way to get back in the lime light and make money. I love him though, lol.

  3. HBO Canada? Will it ever make it to HBO USA? Just did a search on my cable and it’s not listed. Is there some pedantic cross-country licensing nonsense that needs to be resolved?

  4. I think it kinda cheapens and denegrates his stature to be going back and doing a show, whose stars don’t really care about (Spiner, Stewart, etc) and he was never a part of. Kinda low-brow like I said.
