Fan Film Axanar Kickstarter Success
1 min readThanks in part to the help of George Takei in getting the word out, the Star Trek: Axanar Kickstarter has far exceeded its original funding goal.
Takei sent a tweet to his followers on the final day of the fundraising campaign. “Battlestations! RT if you want exciting new Star Trek filmmaking. Let’s make this happen–just hours left to help.”
That tweet evidently was worth around $200,000, according to the Axanar filmmakers. In all, they raised $634,471, over six times their original stated goal of $100,000.
“The response to our Kickstarter has been amazing and because of the help of George Takei, we blew through $500,000 and now $600,000,” they said, via their fundraising page. “We never dreamed we would get close to original amount we said we needed.”
“Well, due to all your generosity,” the filmmakers added, “we have everything we need for the sets and studio and are well on our way to covering most of the budget.”
Filming on the ninety-minute film is expected to begin in December.
If you haven’t checked out “Prelude to Axanar” on youtube, watch it! It’s great. Can’t wait for the feature film! This looks to be 100x better than those other fan films.
And is possibly better written that either of the JJ-Trek films. Not like that is hard, but there is that.
One of the best fan films ever made – raising the bar and setting a new gold standard for all things to come. Hopefully the main film will live up to its precursor. Go Axanar!!!
