Trek Actors In War Of The Worlds Fundraiser
2 min readIn January, actors from all five of the Star Trek televised series will take part in a War of the Worlds fundraiser at the Acme Theater in Hollywood.
The one-night only performance will raise funds for Sci-Fest LA: The Los Angeles Science Fiction One-Act Play Festival.
“Wil Wheaton will headline as ‘Orson Welles‘ alongside fellow Star Trek alumni Walter Koenig, Michael Dorn, René Auberjonois, Armin Shimerman, Tim Russ, and Linda Park. Also appearing: Dean Haglund (The X-Files) and a special prerecorded cameo appearance by comic book legend, Stan Lee. The performance will be produced by Sci-Fest LA and directed by Jim Fall.
“The idea for the fundraiser came from Sci-Fest LA co-producer, actor David Dean Bottrell (Boston Legal).’Even after seventy-six years, the original script for War of the Worlds is still chilling and beautifully written,” he said. ‘We are tremendously honored to have such an extraordinary company of actors performing it live on stage. And as a lifelong Star Trek fan, I’m speechless. This is going to be an amazing night for sci-fi fans!’
“Following the performance, audience members can attend a post-show party and bid on seven exclusive War of the Worlds posters designed specifically for this event by some of LA’s hottest comic book and sci-fi artists.
“Tickets for the event are currently available for donors contributing to the festival at the Shooting Star level or higher and includes an after-party with the cast. For more information on the event and instructions on how to obtain tickets, visit Sci-Fest LA.
“Sci-Fest LA was “co-founded by veteran Los Angeles Theatre Producers, Michael Blaha and Lee Costello, and actor, David Dean Bottrell. Sci-Fest LA: The Los Angeles Science Fiction One-Act Play Festival debuted in May of 2014 to sold-out houses and critical acclaim. The organization’s mission is to produce an annual festival of new, beautifully realized, visually compelling sci-fi one-acts featuring many well-known actors from beloved sci-fi and fantasy franchises.
“In addition to the festival, Sci-Fest LA also promotes quality short science fiction through its two writing competitions, the Roswell Award and the Tomorrow Prize for Short Fiction, which is open exclusively to area high school students.”
