Smithsonian Three Day Trek Celebration

Boldly Go 50, a three-day celebration of Star Trek, begins September 8 at the Smithsonian, fifty years after the first episode of Star Trek aired.
At 8 PM that evening, a free screening of The Man Trap will take place.
Day Two will feature photo ops around the restored USS Enterprise model, and a screening of Building Star Trek, the documentary recently completed by the Smithsonian Channel. In addition, Adam Nimoy‘s For the Love of Spock will be screened.
Day Three will feature outdoor “Trek-inspired” activities and tributes, “including botanical arrangements reminiscent of Star Trek TOS’s iconic set designs.” In addition, there will be “opportunities to chat with Star Trek experts and gobble up Star Trek treats.”
Fans are encouraged to come in costume and there will be a costume contest and prizes.
“I think my dad would have been overjoyed to know that the fans and the broader public will be gathering and honoring this occasion and revisiting what made the show special and what was so important to him: the celebration of diversity, tolerance, and respect for all life forms,” said Rod Roddenberry, who is expected to be at the event for some of the festivities.
