Shatner Letters To Be Auctioned Today
1 min readEleven letters from William Shatner regarding his Star Trek career will be auctioned off today by Nate D. Sanders Auctions.
The topics covered in the letters include Shatner’s reaction to the original pilot when introduced to it, the Shatner-Takei feud, the on-screen romance between Kirk-Uhura, Walter Koenig, envy of DeForest Kelley‘s marriage, Shatner’s decision to not attend the funeral of co-star Leonard Nimoy and more.
The Trek pilot was “a little slow,” said Shatner in one of the letters, and “a little ponderous.” Shatner felt that it should include “some lightness, some humor.”
As has been reported before, Shatner was a bit puzzled by George Takei‘s enmity towards him. “I had never really got to know him,” said Shatner. “He would come in every so often during the week while we were shooting Star Trek. I was busy learning lines and dealing with my life, so I really can’t remember a meaningful conversation — I’m sure that would be my fault…my lack of attention.”
“Trekkies worldwide will be fascinated by these unique topical recollections,” said auctioneer Nate Sanders. “They are a fantastic series to enhance the finest collection of Star Trek memorabilia.”
The letters, which can be seen here, have minimum bids of $1,500 each.
