Star Trek At The Creative Arts Emmys

2 min read

The Creative Arts Emmys ceremony took place over the weekend with Star Trek actors from all of the shows on hand for the event.

The Governor’s Award was presented on September 8, which just happens to be the day that the original series premiered back in 1966.

William Shatner and Sonequa Martin-Green accepted the award on behalf of Star Trek. Star Trek “represents an idea that is greater than all of its parts,” said Shatner. “I accept this award for all the artists who have worked to make this show a success.”

“It may have started off as an entertainment series,” said Bill Nye, who presented the award, “but it changed the world – and I feel that it changed the world for the better.”

In attendance at the ceremony were William Shatner, Walter Koenig, LeVar Burton, Terry Farrell, Jeri Ryan, Linda Park, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Alex Kurtzman.

Star Trek “resonates because we were talking about topical issues and socio-political content,” said Koenig. “We still worry about living together and having a fruitful and joyful experience. We are beset with problems that we had in the Sixties.”

Star Trek “has been a beacon of hope for so many people for so long,” said Kurtzman. “In dark times, we need that hope.”

“It’s all about good storytelling,” said Burton.

Martin-Green, speaking about Discovery, said that “it was very important to us” to do justice to the Star Trek name, “but be our own at the same time.”
