Nichelle Nichols’ Legacy Project: Noah’s Room
2 min readA new fundraiser has been set up for Nichelle Nichols‘ Legacy Project, Noah’s Room, which will include Nichols in her final onscreen performance.
“I’ve enjoyed my many years playing Uhura and I want all my fans out there to know I love you dearly,” said Nichols.” I’d like to take a minute of your time and tell you about a movie that I think would mean so much to so many people. It’s called Noah’s Room. Please check out our website and if you would like to be part of this wonderful project, I ask you to please join us. Thank you all so much for all the wonderful times and memories. God bless you.”
Here is a description of the film. “Based on true events, Noah’s Room is the story of an African-American family who, against all odds, take in an abused and troubled white youth to raise as one of their own.
“When a horrible tragedy claims the life of their teenage son Noah, their family is left devastated and faced with an immediate and difficult decision to make. What is to happen to Lucas, the problematic white teenage boy from foster care, whose reckless actions are directly responsible for the death of their son?
“They soon come to the realization that putting the blame and focusing their anger on Lucas might be the easy thing to do, but it’s not the right thing to do.
“When it quickly becomes clear that the decision to bring Lucas into their family doesn’t come without trials and tribulations for them all, the challenge to break through to and reach a lost young man’s heart and soul begins.
“Together they learn that there are more things that bring us together than divide us.”
Noah’s Room “puts a modern day fresh spin on the classic story of a white family taking in a black youth to raise.
“Rich with color and diversity, viewers are invited into the heart of the black community where we see on full display the struggles, fears, dreams and the triumphs of a proud and beautiful people.
“Noah’s Room is a blunt in your face contemporary look at what it’s like to be black in today’s America.”
The funds pledged to the project will be “used directly for the production and completion of the feature film. The hope is, due to Nichols’ age and health, to get her part filmed this autumn. She will be taking on the role of Henritta, the matriarch of the family.
As usual, there are perks for various contribution levels.
