Old Crest Theater To Be Renamed

The old Crest Theater in Westwood was sold to UCLA, and it will become an off-campus performing arts space named after actor Leonard Nimoy.
Nimoy’s widow Susan and an anonymous donor provided part of the funding for the space, which will open in 2021 as the UCLA Nimoy Theater. Other funding will come courtesy of a new fundraising campaign by Center for the Art of Performance (CAP) UCLA. Cap UCLA will operate and manage the UCLA Nimoy Theater.
“As a longstanding supporter of the Center for the Art of Performance, and its inspired artistic director, Kristy Edmunds, I am thrilled to help provide UCLA with a long-awaited state-of-the-art theater,” said Susan Nimoy. “My late husband, Leonard Nimoy, and I admire Kristy’s passion for the art of performance, her out-of-the-box imagination, razor-sharp intellect and her vision for what the UCLA Nimoy Theater will bring to Los Angeles.”
The theater started life in December 1940 as the Westwood Theater, a live performance hall. Its latest renovation, in 1987 by the Walt Disney Company, featured its current “Art Deco Revival” signage.
