Stewart: Aging Picard And Hopes For Multiple Seasons

While doing press for his new movie, The Kid Who Would Be King, Sir Patrick Stewart spoke to Yahoo Entertainment where he spoke about his new Star Trek show.
The actor explained how that he was “extremely interested” in the story ideas that he heard when he went in for his first meeting. “I still wanted to know more.”
Stewart got his answers, which satisfied him, and he signed on to the project. “I’ve been in the writers’ room for a total of three weeks in the last couple of months,” he said. “The work that’s being done there is extraordinary; basically, I just sit and listen. I mean, these clever guys, ideas going backwards and forwards…and what we have coming up is exciting.
“It’s exciting for me because it excites me as an actor. Oh, the story is great. And – I could be so careful what I say or they’ll skin me alive if I say the wrong things. But it’s…it has a…it references the present day at times, and that’s all I can say, really. I’m not saying we are in the present day. We’re not. But the world that we find Jean-Luc Picard in is not quite the world that we left him in.
According to Stewart, the new series will tell one long story. “They are writing a ten-hour movie,” he said. “We’re hoping for more than one season.”
Stewart warns fans to not expect the aged Picard as seen in the Next Generation finale. “I remember vividly those scenes in…the episode was called All Good Things,” he said. “And I grew a beard, and they made me up. I looked older than eighteen years ago; I don’t think I’m saying too much, than I will in the upcoming series.
“Jean-Luc Picard and Patrick Stewart are the same age.”
