Paul McGillion On His Star Trek XI Role

Although J.J. Abrams had someone else in mind for the role of Montgomery Scott, he wanted to have Paul McGillion in Star Trek XI and offered him a small part.
As reported at Trekmovie.com, McGillion will have a small role in Star Trek XI although just who he plays and what role his character has is a secret. "As you know I have signed pages of confidentiality clauses," said McGillion. "I can say that I had a scene with Kirk and that was pretty of cool. And I am not a 'red shirt' so there you go. I was around for about a week."
McGillion had tried out for the role of Scotty, but that role went to Simon Pegg. McGillion was offered another part and when he arrived on the set, Abrams came up to him and said, "Paul, thank you so much for doing this. Sorry I couldn't give you anything bigger but I wanted to have you in the movie and the fans love you. But I had Simon in mind." McGillion was impressed by Abrams. "He really doesn't have to say any of that. It really shows you that nice guys can get ahead too. From the short time I spent with him I really can't say enough good things about him. There is a reason he does so well. He sets a tone for a really great environment and hopefully that will turn into a great movie."
In addition to Star Trek XI, McGillion is currently appearing in Stargate: Atlantis again, in the two-part episode Kindred. "'Kindred Part 2' is a heavy episode for Carson [Beckett] and I think the fans are going to love it," said McGillion, "especially the 'save Carson Beckett' fans who spent so much time to get the character back.
