Wired: Spock Prequel Comic And Abrams

2 min read

A six-page comic in which Spock gives a brief history of his life up to the time of Star Trek XI is available online from the May issue of Wired Magazine.

As reported by Wired, the comic, drawn by Paul Pope with a story by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, is now online, along with an interview with Star Trek XI‘s J.J. Abrams, who guest-edited the issue. The “Mystery Issue” of Wired, edited by Abrams, is available on newsstands this month. Some features from the issue are online, including a short behind-the-scenes video describing how Abrams was chosen to guest edit the special issue and how the issue was put together, including the Star Trek XI Spock comic.

“Every few years, we hire a guest editor,” explained Thomas Goetz, deputy editor for Wired Magazine. “We kind of look through the Wired world and try to identify people we think are cool or have especially powerful ideas that we could kind of bring to the magazine and kind of have what we hope is a powerful collaboration. So J.J. was on our list for a long time.”

“We decided to do an entire redesign of the issue, said Wired‘s Creative Director Scott Dadich. “We wanted it to look like an issue of Wired that felt almost like an episode of one of J.J.’s TV shows.”
