Star Trek XI Advances Towards Oscar

Star Trek XI is one of seven films that are still in the running for a visual effects Oscar.

The 82nd Academy Awards will be presented in March, and Star Trek XI is one step closer to making the final list of three films which will compete for Achievement in Visual Effects.

010609OscarThe seven movies making the cut were:

  • Star Trek XI
  • Avatar
  • District 9
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Terminator Salvation
  • Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
  • 2012

Films that did not make the cut include: Angels and Demons, Coraline, A Christmas Carol, G-Force, GI Joe: the Rise of Cobra, Sherlock Holmes, Watchman and Where the Wild Things Are.

The final nominations will be announced on Tuesday, February 2 and the awards for outstanding film achievements will be presented on Sunday, March 7. ABC will televise the Oscars.
