Bay Area Star Trek Wedding Winners Announced
2 min readA lucky couple from Berkeley will say “I do” all over again on the U.S.S. Enterprise Bridge.
Kyle Sessions and Nancy Kerr were announced as the Tech Museum’s “Ultimate Star Trek Wedding” contest winners, beating out thirteen other couples from around the country.
Couples submitted a photo and several paragraphs explaining why they should be selected for the Star Trek wedding. The winning couple was selected by others who voted on the museum’s Facebook page. Sessions and Kerr received the highest number of votes; of 2,189 cast, 522 of the votes were for the couple.
“This is really exciting!” said Sessions. “This is the sort of thing that we’ve wanted to do for a while. We’ve seen all the movies and television series starting with The Next Generation, then Deep Space Nine and Voyager. We’ve recently been working our way through the Original Series.”
The couple explained in their online story how they met. “Well, we met when we both went to college. It was our first year at that school, and neither one of us knew anybody. We ended up living across the hall from each other in the dorms, and quickly found out we had a lot in common, including a love of Star Trek and all other things sci-fi!”
Sessions and Kyle were married on October 2, 2004. They are in the process of deciding when to renew their vows, but have said that they will be in costume when they remarry.
The couple will receive exclusive use to the bridge during the ceremony; a private museum room for a reception; two-night’s stay at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, and a two-tier, Star Trek-themed wedding cake from Bijan Bakery & Café.
