Star Trek XI Wins Empire Award

1 min read

On Sunday night, Star Trek XI collected yet another award, this one courtesy of the 2010 Jameson Empire Awards.

Nominated for three Empire awards; Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film, Best Director and Best Film; Star Trek XI won for best Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie.

In winning the award, Star Trek XI beat out Moon, Avatar, District 9 and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

Simon Pegg (Scotty) was on hand to accept the trophy for the Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film win. “It’s nice to see some recognition,” he said. “Star Trek was a hard thing to do. J.J. Abrams did it with amazing aplomb. He took a story that people were starting to lose interest in, in the mainstream, and brought it back to a larger audience.”

For the other two nominations, Abrams lost to James Cameron (Avatar) for Best Director, and Star Trek XI lost out to Avatar for Best Film.

Zoë Saldana walked away with Best Actress honors for her work in Avatar, beating out Anne-Marie Duff, Carey Mulligan, Emily Blunt and Melanie Laurent.

The Empire Awards, started in 1995, are voted on by readers of Empire Magazine.
