Star Trek into DarknessZachary Quinto will be taking on a guest star role on HBO‘s Girls.

Girls is “a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their mid-20s.”

Quinto will be appearing in one episode in the fourth season. Girls just finished Season Three recently.

According to US Magazine, Lena Dunham (Hannah Horvath) and Quinto both wore “volunteer-type smocks” while shooting the episode in question yesterday.

  1. I like the guy, and I too would like to see him get an interesting role, because IMHO he hasn’t had one yet.

  2. I thought Season 4 Sylar was pretty interesting. Quinto got to be an innocent amnesiac in the police station, be evil in Matt’s head, be remorseful in “The Wall,” and discover the pleasures of being a hero in “Brave New World.” That’s a lot more range than most characters ever get!

But yeah, I’d love to see him get a role like Johnny Depp played in “Edward Scissorhands.” Not that I think we need a remake of that particular movie, just that it’s the kind of role that I think many actors would struggle with but Quinto would shine in. I’d also love to see him play a vampire — not the “Twilight” kind of tripe, but a character like Jean-Claude in Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series, one where the character is partly good but also has to be ruthless sometimes, something that could show off Quinto’s astonishing range.

Maybe if he makes enough money off of the third reboot movie, his own Before the Door production company will make a movie that gives him a really interesting role.

  3. Lena Dunham had to title the show “Girls” because looking at her, it isn’t obvious.

  4. I’m a Pittsburgh guy too (although I’m old enough to be his dad and then some), and I have nothing against him or his talent, but he needs a really good non-genre role where the character comes from something other than a sci-fi gimmick, and he really needs to distance himself from Nimoy, who was IMHO never that great an actor. I’m afraid it’s almost too late for that.

  5. Oh come on. She’s clearly the one on the left in the glasses.

  6. I’m impressed by Quinto so far, but I definitely agree he needs a good something nongenre to keep from sliding down that pigeonhole.

  7. Hmm. That would be good. He’s said he doesn’t want to be Spock-zoned for the rest of his life.
