Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s LeVar Burton will be the recipient of an award at the Facets Boo! Bash this Sunday.

Burton will receive the Facets Award at the gala.

Burton was chosen for the award for his “contribution to society and culture in advancing dialogue and race as well as his role in teaching children to read.”

“Few individuals in the entertainment industry have shown the breadth of vision and commitment to education as LeVar Burton,” said Facets Director Milos Stehlik. “An entire generation understands the value of reading because of his iconic presence as the host of Reading Rainbow.”

The Facets Boo! Bash is “an annual fundraising gala that benefits the cinema center’s year-round educational programming, including the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival.” This year’s Boo! Bash will be held October 19 from 2 to 5 PM at Park West, 325 W. Armitage Ave. Tickets are $125 for adults and $50 for children.
