Shatner Headed To Dubai
1 min readThe ever-energetic William Shatner will be going to Dubai this spring.
Shatner will be appearing at a Comic Con convention in Dubai along with another Trek actor.
The eighty-three-year old Shatner shows no signs of slowing down, keeping a busy schedule. That schedule will include his appearance at the Middle East Film and Comic Con (MEFCC) in April.
The MEFCC runs for three days in April, and “celebrate[s] pop culture from comics, film and television.”
In addition to Shatner, MEFCC will feature Karl Urban, Star Trek into Darkness‘ Dr. McCoy.
With this Con, and a theme park in Jordan, maybe Trek will bring peace to the Middle East? Weird or what.
At the end of the convention Shatner should recite Kirk’s speech about mankind being killers who are not going to kill – today.
A very strange country to be holding a comic con in. I’m guessing there won’t be too many scantily clad female cosplayers attending. If I was Shatner and Urban, I wouldn’t be seen dead doing an event in a place like Dubai for fear of being accused of tacitly supporting all manner of stuff that doesn’t go down at all well with the American liberal left.
It’s a bit awkward for Shatner as well, given that he’s Jewish.
Dubai is not like the rest of the Middle East. Think of it more like Singapore.
And there are plenty of Jewish people working and living in the UAE. Frank Gehry is designing the Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi for example.
True. But then with Shatner, it’s only ever been about the money. If Assad said “I’ll pay you double”, Shatner would go to Syria and welch on Dubai.
