Pegg Teases Elba Character

1 min read

Simon Pegg spoke briefly about the character that Idris Elba will be playing in Star Trek Beyond.

The character that Elba will be playing will be unique, Pegg promised.

“It’s a really interesting, complex character,” said Pegg. “We shouldn’t expect to see anything like Benedict Cumberbatch‘s creepy genius Khan from Star Trek Into Darkness in Elba’s performance, however. His performance is all his own.”

There’s a good reason that Elba’s villain is different than Cumberbatch’s. “Only because it would be a retread,” said Pegg. “What we don’t want to do is have the same kind of villain with the same motivation.”

  1. Poor guy. His quotes sound like he’s been tortured for months in meetings with studio execs while trying to get his work through the wringer. No wonder he tried to quit repeatedly.

Elba is good stuff tho, should be fun.

  2. I’m just relieved to know Cumberbatch wasn’t playing Khan in STID after all – he was playing a creepy genius named “Kahn”, perhaps a long-lost relative of this woman:

  3. > Only because it would be a retread,” said Pegg. “What we don’t want to do is have the same kind of villain with the same motivation

Like…Khan? Why didn’t they think of that before?

  4. And the character is “unique.” Well, they’ve done kitty cats so…Kirk must be getting it on with a puppy dog.

  5. Nuts. I did a copy/paste of their quote and didn’t catch their misspelling. *head-desk!*

  6. No big deal. It’s amazing how much that misspelling persists, even among fans, when the title is there in big letter in the title.

  7. Boo-yah! Of course, he could be playing Jake Sisko, Chief Correspondent for the Intergalactic News Network.

  8. Absolutely. Now all we have to do is commandeer a bird-of-prey, slingshot back to 1999 and cure cancer.

  9. As our favorite Vulcan first officer pointed out, “There are always possibilities…”
Somehow I’d imagine a plot where poor old Alan Rickman is stuck as the keeper of Madeline’s katra.
