Star Trek Dressing Gown/Robe Review

For those in the U.K. looking for that perfect holiday gift for male Star Trek fans, the official Star Trek robe would both keep them warm, and allow them to express their love of Star Trek.

Available at the U.K. site, www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk, the site features three versions of the robe; Captain Kirk gold, Spock blue, or Scotty red. The robe sells for £32.99 (€38.39, $51.61).

At first glance, the robe (at left, click on thumbnail to see full photo), made of cotton velour, seems to be on the thin side, but don’t be fooled by the lack of bulk. The robe is surprisingly warm and will easily keep the chill off on a cold night.

Trimmed in black, the robe features two front pockets and a sash belt. There is a gold embroidered logo on the front, and each sleeve has gold embroidered rank stripes. The embroidered logo, pictured at right, is very well done and looks rather elegant. The pockets are roomy.

Marketed for men, the “one size fits most” robe is said to fit men who wear size medium through extra-large. The reviewer’s husband stands 6’4″ (193 cm) tall and the robe fit nicely. The robe is 144 cm long with a 62 cm sleeve length (@ 56″ and 24″ respectively) and is said to fit waists up to 172 cm (50″). Men who are on the short side, or rather portly, would probably not fit into the robe properly.

For women who might also be interested in the robes, some taller/larger women would be able to wear them too, even though the robes are made for and marketed to men. The reviewer is 5’6″ in height (@167 cm) tall, and the robe came down about 6″ below the knee (@15 cm), which wasn’t too bad (usual preference is for knee-length). The only problem would be in the shoulders, as they are several inches/@ten cms too large (which also affects sleeve length). The photo at left shows the robe on the reviewer’s sewing dress form, set to her own measurements.

The robe is rather nice and could also be worn straight out of the shower, or perhaps donned after swimming, for those Trek fans who like to publicly express their Trek love.

So the Star Trek dressing gown/robe would be a good buy for that male Trek fan in one’s life, and certain women would also be able to wear it.
