Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-ray Audio Issues

1 min read

Fans that purchased the recent release of Season One of Star Trek: The Next Generation found that there were audio issues with their DVDs and CBS Home Video has acknowledged that and has taken corrective action.

The correction comes less than a week after the Blu-ray set was released.

“We have discovered an anomaly in the English 7.1 DTS Master Audio track in our Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 Blu-ray Box set,” said CBS Home Video. “There are some episodes that inadvertently had their front channel designations incorrectly mapped, resulting in an undesired playback experience when listening to them in a 7.1 or 5.1 Surround Sound environment.

“We are quickly working to remedy the situation. Replacement discs (Disc 1, 3 and 4) will be made available free of charge. Please email phe.stng@bydeluxe.com for details regarding the replacement program. You may also call 877-DELUXE6 (877-335-8936) between 8am to 6pm Pacific, Monday-Friday.

“We strive to provide our fans the best Blu-ray experience possible and sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.”

  1. “Fans that purchased the recent release of Season One of Star Trek: The Next Generation found that there were audio issues with their DVDs… ”

Yeah if I had bought blu-rays and got DVDs instead I know I’d be irritated.

  2. Well, I’m 53 years old and the round disks are called DVDs to me. They might be Blu-ray DVDs or just plain DVDs but just saying, “well there were audio issues with their Blu-rays” just didn’t sound right.

  3. Too right, who wants fancy pants BluRay discs with beautiful, crisp re transferred video when you can enjoy the soft cuddly quality of video tape from the eighties.

Can we assume your next comment will be sent in to TrekToday by carrier pigeon?

  4. I was hesitant, but now that I have the set, I know the purchase was totally worth it. I saw the comparison pictures, but I had NO IDEA how great it would look on my HDTV. In a word, excellent.

  5. You’re older than me, so they should be called CDs to you. Really, the quote should have been:

“…found that there were audio issues with their BDs…”

  6. What’s that, whippersnapper? Audio issues with their BVDs? You kids these days with yer fancy-schmancy high-tech underoos!

  7. Maybe some people like myself prefer to see TNG in it’s ORIGINAL unmolested format.
(OK that was a rant, sorry)

Although my point was if they can’t even produce blu-ray discs with the basic formatting correctly, why would you trust them with a TV series we find dear to us.

The other thing to ponder is that they are not doing it for the fans, just as a means to sell people the same product yet again….. Remember first VHS, then DVD & now Blu-Ray… in a few years when the next new format comes out the will try to sell it again.

  8. OK first that made me chuckle so my hat’s off to you!

No, I really just don’t see the point of buying something I already own again, besides as nice as it might be for the younger fans. The remastering is not the way I remember it.

I also have the same issues with TOS-R

  9. But it’s our choice to buy it in any format. Having never bought it in VHS or DVD because the quality was so poor I am more than happy to pick it up for the first time on BluRay.
