Star Trek Over London
1 min readOn Saturday night, the Star Trek logo appeared over London skies.
Paramount took part in the World Wildlife Foundation’s (WWF) International Earth Hour event in London by using quadrocopters to form the Federation logo in the sky.
Earth Hour is an event coordinated by the WWF which takes place around the world to raise awareness about climate change. During the hour, landmarks and cities switch off their lights.
Powered by green energy, quadrocopters rose three hundred feet into the sky to form the logo near London’s Tower Bridge.
“WWF is delighted that Paramount is supporting this year’s Earth Hour event,” said Kellie Rollings of the WWF. “Millions of people around the world take part in Earth Hour year on year and we’re always looking for innovative ways to get our message out there. It’s fantastic that Paramount has chosen to mark the hour by dimming their lights at this unusual light display.”
That is pretty cool
Whatta joke! Earth Hour is designed for the feeble mindless sheep not about implementing change. People are / have plainly turned off from believing climate change, either from unwilling politicians in the most in elected governments in the world or those spewing negativity from the fatalistic pulpit churches. It is only the tree hugging hippies who are holding on to their ‘love-in’, while the scientific ‘culture of reason’ are made more and more irrelevant but the mindless masses. Everyone else has just moved on. The reasons for Earth Hour existing have changed so much, it has become past the use-by date — as is the nutters of the WWF.
The image of London is the best joke of all. At this location you cannot see any stars or planets because of the terrible light-pollution, whether it EarthDay or not. All you do see is the same dull reddish washed-out sky all year — even if it is cloudy! As for the Star Trek logo (which is a misnomer, because each Federation starship in TOS had a different symbol) what does it really mean? What good is celebration humanity’s future travelling into the interstellar space of the Alpha Quadrant if you can’t even see anything at all of it!
You tell ’em! I celebrate Earth hour every night for 6-8 hours myself.
But… but… it looks so pretty!
I wish I knew about this! But didn’t hear a word beforehand.
Better the Star Trek logo than Drink Pepsi (a gag I am nicking from the Red Dwarf Novel better than Life)
