New Star Trek Pinball Machine

Fans of pinball games will be pleased to hear that a new pinball machine inspired by Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek into Darkness is to be released.
The new pinball machine promises to “puts players in Captain James Kirk’s chair of the U.S.S. Enterprise, embarking on a journey to protect and defend the planets of the Federation.”
“Stern‘s Star Trek pinball machine features all the bells and whistles a Star Trek fan would desire. With adrenalin-filled battles, high-definition artwork, cosmic LED lighting and classic musical scores, the Star Trek game will evoke the sensation of flying through space at warp speed to rescue Spock and defeat the U.S.S. Vengeance. The newest game from Stern includes an animated battleship, three lightning fast ramps, three flippers, resettable memory drop targets and much more.
Star Trek is Stern‘s first all-LED Pro Model. The playfield features seven multicolored LED paths that lead gamers on easy-to-understand color-coded routes. There are six missions for casual players matched by eighteen complex treks to immerse enthusiast players deeper in the game. As players attack an oncoming threat with three action-centered flippers, the all-LED playfield will captivate onlookers and enhance the player experience with features like phaser flashes and photon torpedoes.”
“The Star Trek pinball machine celebrates the much loved sci-fi franchise by bringing fans a whole new adventure right at their fingertips,” said Gary Stern, Chairman and CEO of Stern Pinball, Inc.
The Star Trek pinball machine will be offered through authorized Stern distributors and dealers, in three versions; a pro version for $5,395, a premium version for $7,495, and a limited-edition version for $8,795.

Well that answers that question! Like “Laura Croft: Tomb Raider” the plot for next Star Trek movie will be based on a pin ball machine!
I’m just pleased at the 1:1 scale replica of the galaxy… I mean, look how close the beta quadrant is…. Yep… STD based.
But won’t a retread of an old obsolete platform like pinball appeal only to the crusty, crotchety sort of geezers who actually like the original series?
Although I’m in the “STID” was not really Star Trek camp and definitely not a fan of the new movie, I do also love me some pinball. I own a Star Trek: The Next Generation pinball that Williams put out in 1993 and it is one of the best pinballs of all time! It sits proudly in my man-cave next to my other pin…a Twilight Zone pinball (my other favorite sci-fi show:)) and I play it all of the time and it never gets old…has the original cast voices (even John De Lancie as “Q”) and music, too. Hopefully, Stern will come through here with another good table that’ll be as good and I’ll be able to enjoy it despite my disdain for the STID.
Just watched the video and saw that this is a Steve Richie design…he’s the same person who designed the ST:TNG pin! My hopes for another great pinball just got a nice boost 🙂 …

Well, you know, since this is apparently going to be a great game, by JJ’s thinking, it should make up in the home market what the video game cost the film in the cinema market…. Really shocking that someone with his level of media integration would have the nerve to even try that one on us.
Indeed. I’m flummoxed that he’d feel the need to even say something like that when the film has done well financially.
At any rate it does look like a really well-crafted pinball game.
