A new mobile game for iPhone, iPad, and the iPod touch will be of interest to Star Trek fans.

The game, Star Trek Trexels, is set within the original Star Trek universe and will feature characters and locations from both the original series and The Next Generation.

TrexelsShot121213[x]cube GAMES and YesGnome, LLC are pleased to announce a whole new way for fans ‘to boldly go where no one has gone before’ with Star Trek Trexels.

“A temporal rift has caused old foes and surprising new allies to find their way into an unexplored region of space. Build your ship, choose your crew, and explore an 8-bit galaxy like no one has before.

“Set within the original Star Trek universe, players will encounter familiar characters and locations from Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as all new crew members, aliens, and mysterious planets to explore. The game also features narration by the one and only George Takei, the original music from the series, and a user interface based on the iconic LCARS (Library Computer Access/Retrieval System) system.

“‘We were really inspired by the spirit of the original series, especially the sense of exploration and adventure,’ explained Craig Bolin, Senior Game Designer at YesGnome. ‘Our goal was not only to give players the opportunity to build and customize their own ships, but the chance to journey through an entire galaxy’s worth of strange new worlds and civilizations.'”

Players can explore the galaxy, build their ships, choose crews, and enjoy “exciting space combat and away missions.”

Star Trek Trexels is now available at the iTunes App store.

  1. I’m not sure that would work… It seems to be one of those micro transaction type games they like to crank out for mobile platforms…

  2. could still work 3DS makes you use a credit/debit one to get games from Eshop or within the Mii Plaza 🙂

  3. When “battling”, other options appear such as “quantum computer”. Aside from the attack function and the heal function, what do these other buttons do?

  4. Actually, it’s apparently based on building rooms and tapping on floating cubes to get anything done.

Seriously, the graphics are lovely, but the gameplay is tedious, and you can’t even complete certain missions without in-app purchases. I say stay away. I wish I had, but I fell in love with the 8-bit retro goodness.
