Sutherland Passes
1 min readHal Sutherland, co-founder of Filmation Studios, passed away recently.
Sutherland was the director of the first season of Star Trek: The Animated Series.
Joining Disney in the 1950s, Sutherland formed Filmation Studios with Norm Prescott and Lou Scheimer. Many a child’s Saturday morning entertainment came courtesy of their work in cartoons such as The Batman/Superman Hour, Archie’s Fun House, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, and of course, Star Trek: The Animated Series.
After Star Trek: The Animated Series, Sutherland and family relocated to Washington State, where he pursued his hobby of painting.
No cause of death was given.
Sutherland was important not only to Star Trek, but to animation. RIP

Another pioneer leaves us. I shall howl for him in my special pink battle tunic.
He will be missed.
