To Be Takei On DirecTV

George Takei’s documentary To Be Takei will debut on DirecTV on July 3 before being released to theaters.
To Be Takei chronicles Takei’s life; including his childhood in a World War II internment camp, his time on Star Trek, and his human rights work and Internet presence.
“Over seven decades, actor and activist George Takei journeyed from a World War II internment camp to the helm of the Starship Enterprise, and then to the daily news feeds of five million Facebook fans. Join George and his husband, Brad, on a wacky and profound trek for life, liberty, and love.”
To Be Takei will run from July 3 through August 5 exclusively on DirecTV, and then will be released theatrically on August 22 in both the US and in Canada. On the same date, it will also be available on all major video on demand outlets.
Interviews with all surviving main cast members of the original series are included in To Be Takei.
“We are thrilled that our friends at DirecTV share our enthusiasm for [Director] Jennifer [Kroot]’s incredible movie,” said Mara Winokur, SVP for Starz Digital. “We could not ask for a better partner to launch the film to homes nationwide.”

I find George to be one of those people who’s ego is greater than their talent. This is a big PASS!
As soon as I leave a (positive) comment re: Mr. Takei, the kids rush in to make a lame attempt at countering it.
After the crap he’s pulled over the years to somehow make himself out to be THE star of TOS, what do you expect? The man was at best a glorified extra on the original show before the films and the way he makes it out, he was the lead. Talk about a swelled head!

I lost a huge amount of respect for him after he got mixed up with Howard Stern. I would definitely not want to go “To the Stars” with such a hateful, vindictive, and vulgar person. Sad.
Glorified extra? No, he was a regular. That’s why his name was in the credits every week. I’m no fan of his ego and his grandstanding bullshit, but there’s no point in misrepresenting him. The truth gives one a much firmer club for headwhacking.
As the years turned and wore down his veneer of gentility, leaving only the solid bedrock of his overwhelmingly assholish ego, I too lost respect for the man. Takei, I mean. Stern I never had any respect for.
He is talented, his ego just overinflated to crowd the talent right out. I really have no interest in what he has to say at this point.

I agree that he was no extra but that doesn’t excuse the incredible amount of chest thumping and bitching he’s done over the years. I think it’s funny that Takei bitches about Shatner being an egomaniac when I find Takei to be even worse.
Didn’t say that it did. Like I said, the truth is a stouter beatin’ stick. Takei’s ego could take Shatner’s ego two falls out of three. Especially since Shatner has mellowed some and Takei has… assholified.
