Roberto Orci will no longer be working on the Power Rangers film.

Originally, Orci was slated to be the executive producer of the film, due out in 2016.

Orci was obliged to exit Power Rangers due to his directing work on Star Trek 3, which will be taking more of his time than expected.

Shooting on Star Trek 3 will begin in February.

  1. It’s a shame that he can’t turn over directing this next film to Harve Bennet or Nicholas Meyer. Put some pedigree back into the franchise.

  2. Yes, this is a shame – Power Rangers is exactly the kind of fare Orci is cut out for. Nick Meyer would be awesome.

  3. I was alarmed by the photo at TrekMovie of Orci doing the Vulcan salute wrong. As far as I can tell, Mr. Orci’s main qualification for directing the third reboot movie is his love of Star Trek, but how much can he know about TOS if he doesn’t know what the Vulcan salute looks like?

  4. He dropped the wrong project. He could make a dozen Power Rangers movies for all I care, and leave Trek to someone who respects the established franchise.
Nah, who am I kidding, Trek’s been dead to me since 2009.
