Shatner To Pen Nimoy Book
2 min readWilliam Shatner is working on a book about the late Leonard Nimoy.
Plus – the actor addressed rumors about a possible role in Star Trek 3.
Shatner, currently appearing at the Middle East Film and Comic Con, was asked if he was going to work with Adam Nimoy on Nimoy’s documentary For the Love of Spock. Shatner said that he would, and then revealed his own Nimoy project. “I’ve been asked to write a book about it, and I think I will,” he said.
“Leonard and I knew each other for many, many years, and one of the aspects of having a long relationship is, you validate the memories [you share]. ‘Do you remember when we kick the tire of the car?’ But the two of you would validate each other. ‘Yeah, that was fun, but you had to be there.’ When someone dies that is a friend of yours, all those memories begin to shimmer and slide away, because you think, ‘Did we kick that tire or did we not?’ and you have nobody to validate it, and gradually the memories evaporate.
“That’s one of the tragedies of a friend of yours dying. Friendship has multi-levels of meanings — old friendships, particularly. That’s the area I would examine in the book.”
Shatner also addressed rumors that he would be in Star Trek 3. “J.J. Abrams, the director of the first two Star Trek movies … asked me if I’d be interested in being in the films, so I said, ‘Of course, but I want to do something functional.'”
This was before the director change and the drafting of a new story, so it’s unknown as to whether Shatner will appear or not in Star Trek 3.
Shatner is gonna suck that Star Trek tit dry before he leaves this Earth.
Then he’d be having sloppy seconds. Or thirds. Or whatever.
Bill, if you have to do this, please make it a GOOD book about Mr. Nimoy and not self-serving self-aggrandizement.
A last attempt to upstage.
Haha
But it’s possibly his last fling with authorship. Keeping a convention schedule are harder to do past 80, an age where even survivors in good health nonetheless struggle with health issues.
