Star Trek: The Next Generation Commemorative Coins

The Perth Mint of Australia has released another set of Star Trek coins.

These coins include Captain Jean Luc Picard, and the USS Enterprise-D.

The 99.9% pure silver coins are sold individually, or as a set of two. The individual coins are limited to a run of five thousand coins each, while the set is limited to one thousand, five hundred.

“The Captain Jean-Luc Picard coin depicts the captain in color against a Star Trek insignia. To the left, a representation of the U.S.S. Enterprise appears. Inscriptions include CAPTAIN JEAN-LUC PICARD, 1 OZ 999 SILVER and TM & © 2014 CBS. ARR.”

“The starship is featured on the second coin all on its own with a more detailed likeness. Behind the ship, a colored image of space and planets is offered. Inscriptions include STAR TREK™, THE NEXT GENERATION, U.S.S. ENTERPRISE NCC-1701-D, 1 OZ 999 SILVER and TM & © 2014 CBS. ARR.”

The coins sell for $104.55 AUS each ($82.00 US). The two-coin set, which may be sold out already, sells for $209.09 AUS ($164 US). To order either of the coins, head to the links located below.

  1. Not a big genre coin collector myself, but they do actually look kind of nice.

  2. Silver prices are currently sitting below 17 dollars per ounce. The image of Captain Jean-Luc We Don’t Use Money In The Future Picard must be worth one hell of a markup.

  3. It’s a limited run. The licence costs money. The design costs money. The production dies cost money. So does the packaging and the promotion. It isn’t a mass-produced bullion coin and even those cost more than the paper price of money. You need to understand that all of these costs are spread over just 5,000 coins.
    It’s a collectable made of silver. You don’t complain a model kit selling for 70 bucks contains only $1 of plastic, or a $5 comic includes 5 cents of ink and paper, do you?
