The Star Trek: The Original Series Bluetooth Communicator is making its debut at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend.
For those attending Comic-Con, the Star Trek: The Original Series Bluetooth Communicator can be seen at ThinkGeek‘s booth (#3351).
“Star Trek fans of all ages will finally be able to make and receive mobile telephone calls using an exact replica of the iconic communicating device that Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew famously flipped open to request Scotty’s transportation services.
“Painstakingly 3D scanned from the last remaining Communicator prop in existence, every curve and line of the original [has] been perfectly captured. While it won’t be able to call a starship orbiting the planet, it will pair with Bluetooth enabled mobile phones to answer calls with a flick of the classic antenna grille.
“Truly a one of a kind collector’s item, this piece of geek-history is crafted from die cast metal, stamped and machined aluminum, specially made microphone and antenna grilles and a painstakingly reproduced housing texture which all ensure that the Communicator is a serious prop that will make collectors mind’s implode with joy.

Missed opportunity. Why not make *it* a standalone MP3 player? Given the hardware that has to be in it already for Bluetooth pairing, it wouldn’t have cost much more to add the hardware to play music.

I want a servo. Surely something cool can be done with that these days. Only Trek prop I’ve never seen an official version of. And better than the ones ive seen. Let’s go men!
I want. I want it. I want it. Works. It’s cheaper and better than anything Master Replicas did. And I was a fan of them.
As I’ve said also,……now someone make a Gary Seven servo. Make it work. Make it look like the real prop. There’s gotta be a market for that. Can’t understand why it hasn’t been.
Agree flip phone opportunity was biggest miss. I always thought Motorola should have released FRS walkie talkies in a communicator format as well.
