Quinto Receives GLSEN Award

Zachary Quinto‘s award last Friday from the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) was presented by none other than J.J. Abrams.
GLSEN “works to create a safe space in schools for children who are or may be perceived to be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.”
“To know Zachary Quinto and see the choices he makes and the way he chooses to live his life is to respect him and to love him,” said Abrams.
“It’s been less than five years since I made the decision to come out publicly,” said Quinto, “and in that short time, we’ve made more social and legislative progress as a community than any other time in the history of our nation. And that’s truly a humbling realization and one that should cause all of us to swell with pride and gratitude to be alive [at] this most vital and exciting time. We have triumphed in so many ways recently.
“In that triumph, we stand on the shoulders of many pioneers and fighters and younger people who never had the good fortune to witness the fruits of their labors. To them, we all owe a … debt of gratitude and in the memory of those truer champions than I will ever be, I humbly accept this honor.”

Lots of gay people know they’re gay as early as four years old. And even people who don’t realize that they’re gay until much later can be harassed if other people THINK they’re gay — that’s the “perceived to be” part. nnIf sexual orientation wasn’t on your radar screen when you were a kid, lucky you! But some people aren’t so lucky. GLSEN is for them.

I was the kid every other kid loved to pick on; I was harassed for all dumbest reasons kids come up with, and it didn’t leave me scarred and it hasn’t affected my fragile little mind. Lets not undermine the larger issue, at that age, it’s bullying in general, not an LGBT issue specifically.
Really? Because back when I was a child other children called me faggot all the time. Too bad they didn’t stop projecting their perceived demons onto me. If they had, I might care what some whiny breeder thinks
