Discovery Actors On Saying Goodbye

1 min read

In a short video (note: spoilers for Project Daedalus), Sonequa Martin-Green, Mary Wiseman, and Executive Producers Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin, explained how hard it was to say goodbye to both the character of Airiam, and the actress who portrayed the cybernetically-augmented human, Hannah Cheesman.

“That moment between Burnham and Airiam was really difficult to film,” said Martin-Green. “It’s a two-fold goodbye. When someone leaves, we feel it, and it hurts.

“And then it’s hard to say goodbye to characters as well because of the imprint they’ve made on the story. And Airiam has made such an imprint, because it’s the first time we’ve really gotten to see someone like her, someone who’s been augmented like her.”

“When we lose people on the show, it has an impact, and it has a ripple effect” said Wiseman. “And it matters to us.”

“I can only hope it was the sendoff (Cheesman) deserves,” said Martin-Green.
