PETA To Crash Star Trek Live At NASA
1 min readStar Trek fans looking forward to the debut of Star Trek Live tomorrow at the Kennedy Space Center will have to put up with the antics of PETA first.
PETA will end up being a P.I.T.A. for Trek fans, as the group plans on dressing up as “Trekkies” to greet visitors, according to a press release from the organization.
The protest by PETA coincides with the opening of NASA’s Star Trek Live stage show. While some PETA members will be dressed as “Trekkies,” others, will hold signs that read “NASA: Let Animals Live Long and Prosper.”
PETA’s beef is with NASA funding radiation experiments on monkeys. “NASA should be ashamed of squandering nearly $2 million of the public’s money on a wasteful project that harms animals and won’t protect astronauts,” said PETA Vice President of Laboratory Investigations Kathy Guillermo.
PETA has come under fire in the past with its own record on animal treatment, with claims that they euthanized ninety-six percent of the animals taken in to its American headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia in one year. Figures given to Virginia state officials claim that in the last decade, the “pro-animal” organization euthanized 20,000 pets.
Perhaps instead of dressing up as “Trekkies,” and harassing Star Trek fans and other Kennedy Space Center visitors, PETA should get its own house in order first.
