First ‘Star Trek’ Blu-Ray Sets Announced

The rumors of several days ago have proven to be true and the first Star Trek Blu-Ray offerings will appear on store shelves this spring.

As reported by TrekMovie.com, CBS and Paramount have made the official announcement that the original series and the original series-era of movies will be released beginning on April 28th. The first Blu-Ray release will be the first season of the original series.Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and the other five original series movies (Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek: The Search for Spock, Star Trek: The Voyage Home, Star Trek: The Final Frontier, and Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country) will be released on May 12th.

The first season original series set will include “Starfleet Access” in six episodes, which includes special pop-up trivia and picture-in-picture video commentaries. An interactive tour of the Enterprise is also featured, along with Billy Blackburn’s rare on-set home movie footage, a featurette on the Remastered project and more.

The six-film Star Trek collection includes a brand-new commentary track from noted experts and Star Trek fans as well as commentaries from the previous release of the films. The set has over fourteen hours of special features, of which two-and-a-half hours of that is new material.

A Blu-Ray DVD set including the three “Genesis” movies (Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek: The Search for Spock, and Star Trek: The Voyage Home) will also be available for sale beginning May 12th.
