Yeoh Receives French Award

Star Trek: Discovery‘s Michelle Yeoh has received France’s highest honor.

The actress received the Commander of the Legion of Honour award, which is the “highest civilian decoration anyone can receive from the French government and it is only bestowed on people who have rendered invaluable services to humanitarian efforts that are supported by France.

“Established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, it is divided into five ranks: Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), Commandeur (Commander), Grand Officier (Grand Officer) and Grand Croix (Grand Cross).” Yeoh received the Chevalier title in 2007, and then the Officier title in 2012.

Yeoh is heavily involved in charity work, and was recently appointed UNDP Goodwill Ambassador in 2006 to “raise awareness for Sustainable Development Goals, a UNDP effort to eradicate poverty by 2030.”
