Martin-Green Confirmed For Discovery

As reported back in December, Sonequa Martin-Green was named as a cast member for Star Trek: Discovery, but now the news is official and the name of the character that she will play was also revealed.
Martin-Green will be First Officer Michael Burnham. Discovery Writer Bo Yeon Kim confirmed the name. “Yes, her name is Michael,” he said, via Twitter. “Welcome (officially) @SonequaMG!”
Those wondering about the name Michael for a female should remember, as Larry Nemecek reminded us in a tweet today, that Michael Learned, the mother on the 1970s show The Waltons, was female.
Martin-Green’s most recent project is The Walking Dead, which had its season finale last night.
