Saldana: The Need For Diversity In Hollywood

1 min read

Zoë Saldana has been busy lately, but took time out over the weekend to pick up an award at the NALIP Latino Media Awards.

Saldana received the Outstanding Achievement in Film award for her roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Avatar and Star Trek.

Accepting the award, the actress spoke out about the need for diversity both in front of and behind the camera. “We deserve a place in this country, on and off the camera,” she said. “For any person of color that looks in a TV and doesn’t see a positive reflection of who they are, I want them to feel like they don’t have to be singled out because they’re exotic or ethnic, but because they’re powerful.”
