Frakes To Direct Star Trek: Discovery Episode

1 min read

Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Jonathan Frakes will be directing a first season Star Trek: Discovery episode.

“Jonathan Frakes will rejoin the Trek world with Discovery,” said Writer-Producer Gretchen J. Berg. “He’s a fantastic guy and great director.”

“Our cast is dying to work with him,” said fellow showrunner Aaron Harberts.

Frakes is an experienced director. He directed episodes of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, as well as First Contact and Insurrection. Non-Trek shows that were directed by Frakes include Leverage, Burn Notice, NCIS: Los Angeles and Roswell.

In other Discovery news, Harberts, in an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, said that the new series will be shot in 2:1 widescreen. “CBS has allowed us to find a cinematic language that’s wider in scope,” he said. “Our aspect ratio is 2:1 and it just lends itself to a very lyrical way of telling the story. And just visually speaking, there’s also a little hint in terms of what J.J. Abrams did, a little bit, in terms of some of the visuals.”
