Brand New Trek Series Starring Michelle Yeoh Announced
2 min readIt’s a great time to be a Star Trek fan. Today, it was announced that a new Trek series is in development; starring Michelle Yeoh and focusing on her role in Section 31. It had been rumored that a show based on Yeoh and Section 31 was in the works and the rumors turned out to be true.
“The series will expand on Yeoh’s current role as a member of Starfleet’s Section 31 division, a shadow organization within the Federation.”
“Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades. As a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her,” said Alex Kurtzman. “Erika and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of Star Trek, and we’re all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou.”
“I’m so excited to continue telling these rich Star Trek stories,” said Yeoh. “Being a part of this Universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes—certainly, I believe it will go ‘where no woman has ever gone before!”
The new Yeoh series will be written by Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippold, and will be “produced by CBS Television Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers. Aaron Baiers will serve as co-executive producer.”
So this new series will join Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Short Treks, the Patrick Stewart show, the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks, and most likely a Starfleet Academy show.
Meanwhile, don’t forget that the second season of Discovery begins on Thursday (US/Canada), and Friday (everywhere else).
