Peck: Taking Spock from Discovery To The Original Series

2 min read

Ethan Peck, the grandson of Gregory Peck (To Kill a Mockingbird, Roman Holiday, The Yearling) will take on the role of Spock in Season Two of Discovery, and he explained what fans can expect from him and from Spock.

“I’ve done my best to capture and internalize [Leonard] Nimoy‘s Spock,” he said. But “the Spock that we are creating, that I’m a big part of, isn’t as recognizable as the Spock that you’ve seen.

“When we first see [Spock], he’s sort of unraveled. This is the time when this epic conflict within him — a human and Vulcan in one being — is really on the surface and plays out on the surface.

“The Spock that we are creating isn’t immediately recognizable as a Spock you’ve seen. So we need to get him in a place where he is shaped and molded to the Spock that we will see in the Original Series.”

After getting some episodes under his belt, does Peck feel worthy of the role? “I’m getting there,” he said. “Yeah, I think I do. I hesitate to say that because I don’t want it to sound arrogant or anything, but I feel that the Spock that lives in me is very real to me, and I hope that it appears that way to other people when they watch it. …I’m really excited for the world to see it. Hopefully it’s as good as it felt.”

Star Trek: Discovery begins airing its second season on January 17.
