Yeoh: Weinstein Wasn’t Honorable

1 min read

Star Trek: Discovery‘s Michelle Yeoh was aware of Harvey Weinstein‘s bad reputation in Hollywood.

Weinstein’s company was one of the producers of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, in which Yeoh reprised her role of Yu Shu Lien from 2000’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The Weinstein Co. also produced Netflix’s Marco Polo series, in which Yeoh had a role.

“Any man who treats women with such disrespect and contempt should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” said Yeoh. “”I knew he was a bully and not always honorable. I wasn’t exposed to this side of him; otherwise he would have experienced the full effect of years of martial arts training.”

Another actress from 2000’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon successfully dodged Weinstein, but at a cost. “I feel lucky to have escaped working with Harvey Weinstein, even though it wasn’t from lack of trying on his part,” said Zhang Ziyi. “The deals he offered were always balanced in his favor and I couldn’t accept them.”

One of those deals included a role on the Crouching Tiger sequel. Weinstein promised her an Oscar, but Ziyi prudently refused.
